Portalegre Palace is a historic building, its origins dating back to the late 18th century when it was commissioned by the Viscount of Reguengo.
Over the years, the building was home to several of Portalegre's most illustrious families and was often known as the "Palacete das Estátuas" (Palace of Statues), in reference to the sculptures adorning the façade which represent: commerce, agriculture, fishing, industry, and Europe.

Despite the changes over time, the building's structure remains faithful to its original architecture. Original construction details and artefacts from its past can still be found throughout the palace, offering a true journey back in time.

Rooms and Suites

Each room tells a story. Honouring the building's original character, all our rooms and suites retain their palatial charm and grandeur, featuring spacious layouts, high ceilings, and generous bathrooms, each thoughtfully designed to offer the utmost comfort. Every room is named after a traditional conventual sweet from Portalegre, paying tribute to the region's rich culinary heritage and strengthening our connection to local culture. More recently, we have partnered with regional wine producers, allowing some of our rooms to be 'championed' by leading Alto Alentejo wineries. This connection is reflected in the producer's unique identity within the room and the opportunity to purchase their wines at cellar door prices—a true invitation to discover the tastes and tales of our land. Every room is a celebration of Alto Alentejo's culture—from its sweets and wines to its stories—making every stay a unique, authentic, and memorable experience.

Candy Workshop

Inspired by the Sweets from the Convents of the City of Portalegre (City of 7 Convents), we recreated this space that had already been the stage for the mastery of a Great Confectioner in the City, A Rosária Maria. Some of the best sweets from confectioners in the city now cohabit with those of their own production. Here they can be consumed or bought to take away or offer.

Wine Garden

Our Wine Garden occupies a space rich in history and character. For decades, it was the workshop of Rosário Maria, one of the city's most renowned confectioners. Today, this setting is brought to life once more, keeping the region's traditional sweets alive while pairing them with light bites and a curated selection of Alentejo wines. The Wine Garden is a place for sharing, flavour, and discovery. Open for lunch, dinner, and light bites, it is the perfect place to experience Alto Alentejo at a leisurely pace, in authentic comfort—whether you savour the moment here, or take a sweet reminder of the city with you.

Alternative Dispute Resolution

The European Union has created a website to support consumers in submitting their complaints about any dispute they are involved in. In this context, Portalegre Palace, makes available all the information so that you can exercise your right of complaint with an official, third party and impartial entity to the process, ("dispute resolution entity") that will help you to resolve the dispute in question.

Therefore, if you are dissatisfied with the purchase of a good or service on our website, or with the solution presented by us to resolve the situation, you can access this official website https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/odr/main /?event=main.home.show and expose your objection.

What is alternative dispute resolution? The alternative dispute resolution is the possibility that all consumers have at their disposal to appeal and official entities that help them in the resolution, or orientation of any conflict, before opening litigation processes in the Courts. As a general rule, the procedure is as follows: the customer asks an impartial third party to act as an intermediary between him and the merchant who is the subject of his complaint. The intermediary can suggest a solution to your complaint, impose a solution on both parties, or bring the parties together to find a solution. You may know the concept of alternative dispute resolution by another name: 'mediation', 'conciliation', 'arbitration' or 'committee responsible for consumer disputes'. Alternative dispute resolution is, as a rule, less expensive, less formal and faster than the judicial route.

Portalegre Palace provides the websites of some of these entities that can help you present your arguments:
